Wendy Gonzales, Cantorial Soloist
If you have had the pleasure of attending services when our new Cantorial Soloist Wendy Gonzales participated, you can surely understand that she fell in love with music, the guitar and singing early in her life. Wendy attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts in New York City and then received her undergraduate Bachelor of Music Education at Catholic University, with a concentration in choral music, voice and guitar and a minor in drama. During the 1980’s and 90’s she was a Music Specialist at Washington Hebrew Congregation in Washington, D.C.; a Choral Music Teacher at White Oak Middle School and Parkland Junior High School, and a General Choral Music Teacher at Rolling Terrace Elementary School, all in Silver Spring, Maryland. From 1980 through 1997, at Temple Emanuel in Kensington, Maryland, she taught music to all students in the religious school, was a Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutor, worked with the Director to Education to establish parent education activities, and served as a substitute cantor. She pursued her interests and talents in education with Master’s Degrees in Administration and Supervision and Curriculum Development.
In her spare time, she is involved in community service by putting on musical performances at a variety of senior citizen centers and residences, tutoring of middle and high school students, and helping parent support groups to assist with student and school development.
